In case you weren't aware, the Pennsylvania State Constitution guarantees you the right to:
§ 27. Natural resources and the public estate. The people have a right to clean air, pure water, and to the preservation of the natural, scenic, historic and esthetic values of the environment. Pennsylvania's public natural resources are the common property of all the people, including generations yet to come. As trustee of these resources, the Commonwealth shall conserve and maintain them for the benefit of all the people. (May 18, 1971, P.L.769, J.R.3)
What you can do to preserve our beautiful farmland and rural communities:
Contact your legislators and tell them to support a moratorium on all data center and related infrastructure. Contact information for the legislators can be found under the heading 'Contact Your Representative' on the home page. For those not living in Perry County your representatives can be found at https://www.palegis.us/
Attend your local township meetings, both the Board of Supervisors AND the Planning Commission. Your supervisors won't know what you want if you don't tell them!! Townships and municipalities whose residents show up at meetings have a better chance of favorable results. Nothing speaks louder than packing a meeting to get your point across!
Spread the word about what is happening here. It isn't just happening in one township, they are systematically targeting every township and county in every state. Just because it isn't happening where you are right now, be assured the developers have very active scouts (land agents) out there every single day offering homeowners and farmers exorbitant amounts of money to destroy our land. It is a proven fact that the data center/battery storage farm/warehouse developers specifically target lower income neighborhoods where the people are least likely to either fight back or do not have the resources to fight back. All of these projects are connected, power lines to substations to data centers and power plants. Governor Shapiro wants developers to bring their own power. In Carroll Township that means you won't only be getting a 147 acre tract (next to a low income trailer park) with a data center but a 1,500 MW gas-fired power plant with (2) 185 foot cooling stacks that they plan on using emission credits to justify the ridiculous amount of pollution it generates along with it. In Centre Township it means they will be destroying or rendering unusable large tracts of land to run 765kV transmission lines which carry voltage up to half a million volts and emit electrical and magnetic fields. This EMF radiation emits up to a quarter of a mile in any direction of the lines, polluting neighborhoods with a startling amount of radiation. In Centre Township it also means an expansion that effectively doubles a substation that is already one of the largest substations on the east coast. In Watts Township it means the absolute destruction of the land along the confluence of the Juniata and Susquehanna Rivers. All of these projects mean the loss of wildlife and fauna, all things this area is well known for.
